DESCRIPTION: Are you curious about investing but are not sure where to start? Have you been investing but want to learn more and have questions? Come hear from knowledgeable professionals from the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), Steven Tencer and Richard Hong, and have the chance to ask them questions!

Richard Hong has been a senior trial lawyer at the Securities and Exchange Commission, Enforcement Division, in New York and Washington, DC since 2005.  Previously, for more than a decade, Richard served as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, DC and Miami, Florida.  He has investigated, prosecuted, and tried securities fraud and other white collar cases across the country.  Richard joined the Justice Department after clerking for a federal judge.  He is a member of the New York and New Jersey bars.  He has an AB from Columbia and a JD from Fordham.       
Steven C. Tencer is a Securities Compliance Examiner for the New York Regional Office of the Securities
and Exchange Commission in the Office of Credit Ratings. Amongst his activities Steven monitors the
activities and conducts examinations of registered Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organizations
(NRSROs) to assess and promote compliance with statutory and SEC requirements. Steven has worked
at the SEC since 2019. Prior to the SEC, Steven worked for 28 years with Standard & Poor’s most recently as a Director in the Methodologies Group. His tenure at S&P also included analytical work as a Director in the US Public Finance and Structured Finance groups. His prior experience includes working on regulatory controls at Citigroup’s North American Investment Bank and serving as a senior staff accountant in KPMG’s Audit and Tax Divisions. Steven is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants. He holds an MBA in Finance from New York University and an Associate Degree in Accounting from SUNY Albany.
